Gordonstoun School

In the north of Scotland, in a picturesque rural area, there is a private boarding school, Gordonstoun School. It was founded by a German educator and Oxford graduate, Han Kurt. As an opponent of the Nazi regime, he was forced to move to England where he was able to successfully rebuild the then famous 'Salem system'. The main core of the school campus was an old manor house, after which the educational institution took its name. Khan Kurt initially wanted to demonstrate his vision for schooling and therefore had no plans to make it permanent. However, after numerous financial difficulties, Gordonstoun School opened its doors and by 1939 more than a hundred boys were studying there.

Today the school is one of the most popular educational institutions for children, not only in England, but around the world. About a third of the pupils come from abroad to study here. In all, there are about 40 nationalities. This is not only due to the rich history, the strong teaching staff, but also the less stringent requirements for applicants than, for example, in other institutions at this level.

The Gordonstoun School has two departments: junior school (from 7 to 13 years) and senior school (from 13 to 18 years). One of the main tasks of the teachers is to unlock the full potential of the students and to ensure that they achieve their goals in life. Notable features also include the management team's ability to reduce the cost of education for prospective students in special circumstances, such as those from low-income families.

Gordonstoun is the alma mater of many representatives of the British royal family and other national aristocrats. The first student was Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. After Han*Coulter, he came from Germany to continue his education here. Prince Charles, Prince Andrew and Edward also followed in their father's footsteps. Philip's only daughter Anna could not study here, but she worked for the school board and later sent her two children here.

Winchester College

One of the seven oldest public schools in the UK, Winchester College Boarding School for Boys (formally known in the Charter as St Mary's College, Winchester), is located in Winchester, Hampshire. The College has occupied its present location for over 600 years and claims to have the longest continuous history of any school in the UK ...... using Winchester College as a model, at one time creating such prestigious boarding schools as Eton, Harrow and Rugby.

Winchester College was founded in the late fourteenth century by William Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester, and William Wykeham, headmaster of two English monarchs, Edward III and Richard II. At a time when the church played a vital role in public affairs, Wykeham sought to increase the number of well-educated ministers. In 1382 he received a royal charter allowing the opening of a school, from which the history of Winchester College was preserved. construction began in 1387 and seven years later Winchester College accepted its first 70 students. Wykeham came from the lower strata of society, mainly to educate able boys from poor families who were studying here free of charge. However, ten boys from wealthy families, who lived in the house of the schoolmaster or his assistant and paid tuition, also studied at the college, as required by the school's charter to provide places for the children of "noble citizens".

At the same time in Winchester, also at the initiative of Wykeham, a new university college was being built in Oxford - it is still called. : New College. In it, according to the founder, the graduates of Winchester College would continue their studies. This 'school-university' model was repeated 50 years later by Eton and Cambridge, and even later by Westminster School, which became the preparatory base for two colleges at the same time - Christ Church, Oxford, and Trinity College, Cambridge.

Because of its close links with Oxford, Winchester College continued its educational mission despite all the vicissitudes of history and educational reform. The student population continued to grow and by 1905 the college had 10 residential buildings which have been preserved in the college complex to this day. Historic buildings - architectural monuments from different eras - are of national value and are rightly a source of pride for Winchester College.

Today, Winchester College is one of the most prestigious public schools for boys and girls in the UK. Carefully preserved tradition combined with modernity has designed an exceptional approach to learning that not only gives students a certain amount of knowledge, but also instils in them a sound and critical view of the world, intellectual communication skills, unique

Winchester College is located on the banks of the picturesque River Itchen. The main territory of the college covers approximately 100 hectares and is in fact a nature reserve, the centre of which - the Chalk Hill of St. Catherine's Hill - is recognised as an archaeological monument. Twenty-one hectares are devoted to sports fields and a further five hectares to gardens. A further 162 hectares of school land is separated from the main territory by the M3 motorway - with sports fields, including a golf course. The infrastructure of Winchester College includes a concert hall, a theatre, a music school, a natural science centre, an art school, a residential building, a sports centre, a 25-metre heated swimming pool, a library, a library, a natural science and an art library.

The former Winchester College is an architectural model for many other educational institutions in the UK. The oldest buildings - the chapel, chapel and forecourt - belong to the late fourteenth century, the rest of the buildings were built in the seventeenth, nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. There are a total of nine architectural monuments on the college's territory, including monuments of national significance. The school buildings are a unique architectural ensemble, combining elements of different styles and periods of town and country architecture.

Studying at Winchester College is possible only on boarding school terms. Each pupil is assigned to one of the ten boarding schools on admission and remains there until the end of his time at the school - where he studies, eats and sleeps. At the head of each house there is a manager (housemaster) - one of the teachers, five or six tutors - who helps him. By the way, it is the manager who conducts the entrance tests and selects the new students.

Various competitions are held between the boarding houses, mainly for sports. About 60 boys live in each house, while the 70 best pupils, the school's scholarship winners, live in the main building with its ancient architecture, called the Academy, at the behest of school tradition. The rest of the houses have their own names (official and unofficial), as well as their own colours, of which the ribbons on the caps of the pupils' uniforms were previously painted. The duties of the senior boarders included looking after young people, mainly to help with studies and extra-curricular activities.

At Winchester College, as at other prestigious boarding schools, children are admitted from an early age, years before their studies begin. As a result, the registration of candidates for education 2020 was completed in mid-2017. For foreigners the process is more complex and lengthy. Pre-registration takes place between the ages of 8 and 10. Once a candidate has reached the age of 11, he will be interviewed and written in Prague in January each year. The results will be announced in June. If the test is successful, a guaranteed place or a place on the waiting list is offered. But even with a guaranteed place there is no admission yet, but only an entrance exam. The exam itself is held in May of the same year in which you plan to start your studies.

Applicants for scholarships and privileged university accommodation must pass a complex election examination.

As a bonus, successful candidates receive a "unique education" - teachers and students alike: in both cases, only the best get into the school.
